Danish Kaneria has criticized Mickey Arthur for his management of the Sri Lanka cricket team and has criticized the Sri Lankan head coach for being too harsh on the losing side. Kaneria also called India the big favorite for the ICC T20 World Cup to be played in October.
Former Pakistani bowler Danish Kaneria criticized Sri Lanka’s head coach Mickey Arthur for losing his cool and getting angry at the Lankan players on the ongoing tour of India.
Arthur, 53, was appointed head coach of Sri Lanka in December 2019, months after he was fired from the same position for the Pakistan cricket team after failing to qualify for the 2019 World Cup semi-finals. The South African was appointed with a vision to bring the Lankan team to its former heights, with a strong team rebuilding resume.
However, Arthur has yet to make a huge impact on the current Sri Lankan team with his only win in the ODI bilateral series against the West Indies in March 2020. Kaneria is of the opinion that any team the South African has coached have had a hard time. . on the field and also advised Lankan’s head coach to nurture the talent at his disposal rather than get angry at them.
“You need to prepare this young team and not get mad at them after a loss. Stop giving them vague suggestions. Whichever team they have trained, their performance has diminished, “Kaneria mentioned on her YouTube channel.
Before the T20I series, Arthur advised his players to stay away from social media platforms after the Sri Lankan team faced constant criticism for their dismal performance in one bilateral series after another. Kaneria did not appear to take Arthur’s advice to boycott social media and criticized him for it, asking him to focus on feeding his players tactics.
“Mickey Arthur told his players to stop using social media, but that he should focus on making and executing the right plans for the opposition. This is the age of social media and in a biosecure bubble, gamers will use it safely. What do you do as a coach? What have you delivered? ”Kaneria said.
The ICC T20 World Cup is just three months away and teams are currently experimenting with players to focus on the final combination for the main event. India is also in the middle of the same process, with a largely ‘B’ team taking on the Lankans, but Kaneria believes that due to the talent at their disposal, the Men in Blue will be big favorites to lift the WT20 title.
“If this Indian team continues to perform and execute their skills in this way, and if there is a combination of this renewed team and the main team in England, then the opposition will be under great pressure. This team is undoubtedly a great contender in the T20 World Cup ”, concluded Kaneria.
