Unicode 14.0 arrives with troll and low battery emoji

The Unicode Consortium

It’s officially the time of year when new emoji are released and we can sift through them to find the real highlights. Unicode 14 has arrived, and with it, a host of new emojis are ready for your excited pleasure.

Unicode 14.0 and the new emoji

In total, there are 37 new primetime-ready emoji, and there are even more when you count the different skin tones that various of them offer. It’s hard to pick one that stands out as there are some really stellar options, but we’re pretty familiar with the troll and the low battery emoji as they can be used in so many different ways.

Imagine picking on a friend, enraging them all, and then sending them the troll emoji to let them know that you’re just messing with them. Will it further enrage or calm them? The fun is in finding out.

Of course, low battery can be used to indicate that your phone is literally on the brink of death, but it could also be used to indicate that you are sleepy. There are many possibilities.

And then there’s the lip bite emoji. I don’t need to tell you how you can combine that with eggplants and peaches (although I guess I just did).

The fact is, emoji are fun. Seeing all the new ones injects new life into them. So let’s have a party under the new disco ball emoji while our faces melt to the beat!
