Half way through my efforts to convert salty stuffing in French toast, I Imagine what the person who created the first Scotch egg must have thought. “This is crazy, but it could be fantastic,I bet they whispered to themselves in a lilting accent. Well, they were right, and I’m right this time too: reforming the very experienced rear staple trim on a board of savory French toast works surprisingly well—and provides the perfect vehicle for the rest of your Thanksgiving leftovers. To do it, aall you need is a couple of loose fill cups and a fridge full of half-eaten side dishes. That’s right, my staunch lovers of leftover Thanksgiving sandwiches, it’s time to take up the frying pan and carve out new ones. bread out of dry, fallen apart, rehydrated, and french toast ancient bread.

A good piece of sandwich bread should be tough enough to keep it from falling apart, but soft enough to bite into. Between these two extremesit wasis the crumble I needed to discover when developing this crazy recipe. I experimented with three methods. First, I pressed the filling in a rectangle, and fried in a little butter. This worked initially but after frying the filling fell apart. The next version involved mixing the crumbly filling with an egg, then pressing it into shape, followed by panning in butter. Not bad-this bread held together well and took on a crispy exterior from frying. then i tried pressing the filling into a rectangle first, letting it soak briefly in the mixed egg, and then frying it in a skillet, French toast style. This method worked fine, but it lacked the crispy outer crust. An egg seems to be the addition of the clutch ingredientbut if you must mix it before shaping or soaking it after shaping depends on the type of filler you are working with.

If you have dry, crumbly stuffing

Filling that is dry or a mix that has many additional non-bread ingredients like pieces of sausage or chestnuts, it yields better when the egg is added before shaping it, forming something like a protein network to hold all those loose parts together. Scramble one egg for every two cups of filling you are going to use. This mixture will make two toasts.

In a medium bowl, add the egg to the filling and scramble until evenly coated. Pour half of the mixture onto a sheet of wax paper, parchment, or plastic wrap. Fold the edges over the filling. and use it to push and compact it into a toast shape. Melt a teaspoon of butter in a skillet over medium heat. and add the padding table. Fry for two to three minutes on each side until well golden. Repeat with the other half of the mixture.

If you have a hydrated and sticky filling

Stuffing that is primarily bread product will stick easily, cheating you with your apparent willingness to maintain a bread form. However, once it hits the heat, the mixture will inevitably dry out in the pan and come back to its original form of broken bread. In this case, adding an egg after shaping creates a binder that holds the material together, providing the filling strength and flexibility.

Place a cup of filling in the center of a piece of parchment, waxed paper, or plastic wrap, and pull the corners around to form the shape of a rectangle. Scramble an egg in a bowl and pour into a shallow dish. Dip the stuffed bread into the egg and, if you can, gently flip it over so that the other side is covered in egg as well.. If you are worried that it will break when you drop it in the bowluse a pastry brush or spoon to pick up some of the egg and brush over the top (or use your fingers, I won’t judge you). Let it soak for two minutes or so. before sliding it into a lightly buttered pan. Fry until golden brown, about two to three minutes per side.

Once your Stuffed French Toast has been fry to your liking, let it cool for a few minutes. Top it off with a little of everything you love about Thanksgiving and enjoy.
