Aditi Ashok, the only female golfer from India to participate in the 2021 Tokyo Olympics, admitted that expectations are not working out for her. Having already appeared in the Rio edition five years ago, the golfer is expected to improve her outing, especially with her improvement as a player in the recent past.
Aditi Ashok, who will be participating in her second Olympics, has enjoyed great form preparing for the show. It was only last week that she posted a better result at the LPGA event in Midland, USA, where she finished tied for third with teammate Pajaree Anannarukarn of Thailand, having led the first two days with an impressive total of 19 under torque.
However, golf is a sport for which India is not known, and none of the participants comes close to finishing in the top 10 at the Rio 2016 Olympics. Entering the Tokyo Games, Aditi Ashok was not you are carrying no expectations; rather, you are trying to focus on one week at a time.
“I’m going without expectations, something similar to this week in which we have fun as a team and we take it day by day. Expectations don’t always work out for me, so I try to focus on one week at a time, ”Aditi Ashok told TOI.
Although the men’s event will see reduced attendance due to withdrawals, the women’s section will comprise a relatively more difficult draw, with all of the world’s top 15 players in contention for a medal. But Aditi is not convinced that she will lose sleep over the set of players she is going to compete with, rather keeping the right mindset would be her main goal.
“Regardless of the field, the weather or the field, I think the mindset I’m in is what matters and brings out a good performance. So, I will focus on having that good mindset, “added Aditi.
“We can’t play for the flag very often as golfers and rarely in an event as big as the Olympics, so I’m excited to represent the county in Tokyo.”
