The National Integration Council last met in 2013: Minister informs Lok Sabha

The National Integration Council (NIC) last held its meeting in 2013, Minister of State for Internal Affairs Nityanand Rai informed Lok Sabha on Tuesday. The objectives of the NIC are to achieve unity in diversity, freedom of religion, secularism, equality, social-economic and political justice, and brotherhood among all communities.

Rai was asked if the government proposed to reconstitute the NIC and if its last meeting was held in September 2013.

“Meetings of the national integration council are convened as required from time to time. There is no regular or specific time interval for convening NIC meetings,” the minister said in a written response.

“The last NIC meeting was held on September 23, 2013. However, the government continually addresses the issues of community harmony and national integration,” Rai said.
