Photographer Misan Harriman speaks out against Balenciaga’s children’s clothing ads

Photographer Misan Harriman, who regularly shoots the Sussexes, has spoken out against the Balenciaga fashion house in a video shared on social media.

The Spanish fashion label is facing backlash for a spring/summer 2023 shoot that features young children posing with teddy bears that appear to be wearing bondage clothing. a separate photo A court document relating to child pornography laws was reportedly filed on Balenciaga’s website. Balenciaga has since withdrawn the ads, according to ABC News.

“As a photographer who has worked with many brands in the fashion industry, I am completely horrified,” Harriman says at the start of a black-and-white video he shared on Twitter. “And I’m angry. I know how many steps you go through as a photographer to get client approval on images, I know how many adult eyes have to look at images to get them printed, especially for a retail campaign or [if] you are selling the product online,” he continued. “This Balenciaga gift shop photo shoot is abominable. And those babies, those children who weren’t protected… The fashion industry needs to do something about it.”

On Tuesday, November 23, Balenciaga issued an apology through his instagram stories:

“We sincerely apologize for any offense our holiday campaign may have caused. Our teddy bear bags should not have been featured with children in this campaign. We have immediately removed the campaign from all platforms,” ​​the statement said. “We apologize for showing disturbing documents in our campaign. We take this matter very seriously and are taking legal action against the parties responsible for creating the set and including items not approved for our Spring 23 campaign photo shoot. We strongly condemn child abuse in any form. We stand up for the safety and well-being of children.”
