In a heartfelt Facebook post, she wrote: “My dear sweet mom died at 10:33 pm tonight. Thank you for all your prayers and for being with me the last days. “
Coppola continued: “She had a very hard life with mental health problems. In all that painful emotional chaos, she still managed to teach me something super important. My lioness mother told me, her middle son, that she was affectionate. I was very ashamed of the term affection. I thought it was a bad thing, something to laugh about. “

“I learned from my mom what ‘affection’ really means. I think only a mom can really teach that. It is not loving your neighbor. It is smaller but bigger. Shake hands with tenderness and meaning. Don’t let your mind wonder while hugging someone. And, and your kiss should definitely be sincere and in the moment … if it’s not, well, that adds up to hell on earth. “
