Nick Chubb breaks through the Steelers defense as the Browns eliminate their division rival

NEWYou can now listen to Fox News articles!

The Cleveland Browns were able to quickly erase their lousy loss to the New York Jets with a 29-17 victory over the Pittsburgh Steelers on Thursday night.

However, it was a similar scenario to Sunday against the Jets, as the Steelers attempted the onside kick with less than two minutes left and a six-point lead for Cleveland. But an offside penalty negated the attempt, and the Browns finished the game without a crazy comeback. In fact, they picked up a last minute lateral play gone wrong for Pittsburgh in the end zone to cap off the win.

Nick Chubb set the offensive tone for the Browns. He had another great running game, working his way through the Steelers’ defense. Chubb’s touchdown in the second half turned the game into two scores for the home team, and he finished with a game-high 113 yards on 23 carries.

Chubb had 87 yards and three touchdowns against the Jets on Sunday and totaled 141 yards on 22 carries in Week 1 against the Carolina Panthers.

Quarterback Jacoby Brissett was very efficient for Cleveland, shooting 21 of 31 for 220 with two touchdowns and no interceptions thrown.

In the first half, the Browns were the first to get on the board thanks to a mismatch that wide receiver Amari Cooper took advantage of. His defender gave up too much space near the goal line, and a quick slash was right on Brissett’s money for the touchdown.

Cooper finished the game leading in receiving yards with 101 on seven receptions with the scoring.

The Steelers ended up responding immediately after Cooper’s touchdown, and it was rookie wide receiver George Pickens who made an impressive one-handed catch down the right sideline for 36 yards. It was a catch that was reminiscent of Odell Beckham Jr.’s famous catch in 2014 against the Dallas Cowboys, but while that was a touchdown, Pickens’ catch caused the Steelers to side the field with the Browns.

A few plays later, Najee Harris, who rushed for 56 yards on 15 carries while catching three balls for nine yards, barreled into the end zone to make it 7-7.

From there, it was a back-and-forth shootout, as both teams traded touchdowns again on their next few drives.

David Njoku climbed the ladder to catch Brissett’s pass in the end zone on 1-on-1 coverage for a seven-yard touchdown. But rookie kicker Cade York, who missed an extra point in the team’s late-clinching loss to the New York Jets, missed another to make it 13-7.

STEELERS’ GEORGE PICKENS MAKES A CRAZY ONE-HANDED CATCH VS. BROWN

Chris Boswell would kick his extra point after Trubisky ran into the end zone, giving the Steelers a 14-13 lead.

But the Steelers couldn’t find the end zone in the second half, and after that Chubb touchdown, it was all the Browns needed to take the division win.

The Browns will look to keep their momentum going on the road against the Atlanta Falcons with a long layoff for next week.
