Mikaela Mayer retains WBO title in back-and-forth battle with Erica Farias
The first few rounds were fairly even, as Farias came out firing from the gate, attempting to take the fight to Mayer. Farias landed a remarkable amount of punches up on Mayer.
Mayer, however, struggled and began to feel comfortable, landing with a pair of shots that shook Farias, though Farias did take her own big punch in the round with an uppercut.
Farias continued to aim low and inward as he tried to circumvent Mayer’s physical advantages, although Mayer seemed to get the best of the blows as the two fought hard.
The pair’s trade didn’t slow down the last two rounds and they both made it, although it seemed like Mayer threw a little more and landed a little more.
One judge scored the fight 97-93 and the other two scored it 98-92, all to Mayer’s favor.
