Dallas Mavericks star Luka Doncic was ejected from Sunday’s game against the Cleveland Cavaliers when he hit Collin Sexton’s groin area.
Umpires threw Luka Doncic for a flagrant found Sunday night when it appeared the Dallas Mavericks guard struck an opponent’s groin.
The incident occurred early in the third quarter between Dallas and the Cleveland Cavaliers. Doncic was covering Collin Sexton under the basket when the Cavs guard gave him a shove. In response, Doncic swung his arm back and under the belt.
You can judge for yourself whether you were worthy of an expulsion. Here’s a look:
Officers determined on replay that Doncic made “an aggressive blow to the groin area” and assessed him with a Flagrant 2.
Luka Doncic must be careful with his technical totals
Doncic couldn’t believe the expulsion, but he didn’t do a good job hiding the blow. He looked back at Sexton after doing so. It’s certainly not the most egregious foul for which someone has been sent off this season. It was too obvious.
Since he was a flagrant and not a technician, Doncic did not activate an automatic suspension when he reached the limit of 16. He is still one away.
Sexton’s free throws cut the Maverick’s lead to nine points. However, he didn’t wake up the Cavs. He did the opposite, as Dallas walked away without his star. By the fourth quarter, the Mavs led by 26 points.
Doncic left the game with 15 points, 5 rebounds, 5 assists and 2 steals. The Mavericks relied on Tim Hardaway Jr. and Josh Richardson to save the game.
Dallas has already secured its place in the playoffs, but will want to get through the last four games of the regular season without Doncic regaining another technique. He picked up his 15 on May 2 during a loss to the Kings. That also resulted in another expulsion.
