John Harbaugh teases JK Dobbins’ possible season debut soon: ‘It’s not going to be too long’

In the final preseason game of the 2021 season, Baltimore Ravens running back JK Dobbins tore his ACL. He missed the entire year and is still working to recover from the injury. However, according to Ravens coach John Harbaugh, the third-year running back is getting closer to returning to the field.

“You’ll know it when you see it. I’ll put it that way,” Harbaugh told the assembled media on Friday. according to the official Ravens website. “I’m happy with the way it’s working. We have certain parameters that we’re looking at. It’s not going to take too long.”

Dobbins has been a complete participant in recent practices and hasn’t been ruled out for either of the first two games of the season through the end of the week. It’s possible his debut could come as soon as this Sunday against the Patriots, or maybe next week against the Bills. (Dobbins doesn’t open the season on the physically unable to perform list, which guarantees a player sits out at least four games, making it seem somewhat likely that he’ll debut within the first four weeks of the season.)

Baltimore has been rolling with Kenyan Drake as their leader in Dobbins’ absence. The running game hasn’t been as strong as usual for the Ravens, even with Lamar Jackson there to draw the attention of opposing defensive fronts. Returning Dobbins to the fold would be a huge boost, even if he only operates as a part-time player.

The Ravens are still awaiting the return of fellow running back Gus Edwards, who also had his ACL torn before last season. He has been considered a little behind Dobbins in rehabbing him, although two weeks ago he indicated that he is “doing welland nearing a comeback.
