Jazz Jennings is candid about his struggles with his weight and an eating disorder.
On Friday, the 20-year-old transgender activist and reality star posted two photos of herself on Instagram, one recent and one from a few years ago, showing the weight she has gained in that time.
“As many of you have noticed, in the last few years, I have gained a substantial amount of weight,” Jennings wrote in the caption for the photos. “I suffer from binge eating disorder, a disease in which I am not only addicted to food, but eat it in large quantities.”

Binge eating disorder (BED) is the most common eating disorder in the US, according to the National Eating Disorders Association, which also classifies BED as “life threatening” but “treatable.”
“My binges, coupled with an increased appetite that I experience with some of the medications I’m taking, have made me gain nearly 100 pounds in just under 2 years,” Jennings said.
“I am posting this photo because it is time for me to take care of my weight gain and hold myself accountable.” “I am ready to change my ways; I’ve been saying I’m ready to turn a new leaf, but now I’m running out of trees. “

And even though she has a “fabulous team” to support her – “both professionals and family / friends” – she says, “at the end of the day, I have to be the one to commit to improving myself.”
“I know that I have the power in me to lose weight and I intend to share my progress with all of you. I love you all and thank you for understanding the battle I am fighting to win. “
Jennings received a great deal of support in the comments for her post. Katie Couric commented: “I send you love and support for Jazz. We are cheering you on! “Jennings’s brothers, Griffen and Sander, expressed their support for their sister.” I love and support you, “Griffen wrote.” You’re so tough and you can do anything you put your mind to too [sic]”Said Sander, adding,” I believe in you and I will be by your side every step of the way. “
Jennings thanked her followers for their support on her Instagram story, writing, “Thank you for all the positivity and love. I am so touched by all the support. “
