Gwyneth Paltrow is embracing a milestone birthday.
The actor and Goop founder shared a joyous Instagram photo on September 22 ahead of his 50th birthday.
In the black and white photo, she is wearing a bikini and smiling broadly as she jumps on the grass.
“Reflections on a milestone,” Paltrow wrote in the caption, directing fans to a recent essay she wrote about turning 50 on September 27.
“I understand on some level that life is linear, that I’ve lived x number of days so far and have more in the basket under my arm than in the field in front of me,” he wrote in the essay.
“But there is something in the sweetness of life that exists in the deepest part of me, that has not changed, that will not change. It is the essence of the essence. It seems like it’s getting sweeter.”
The wellness entrepreneur also spoke about how she has changed physically over the years, calling her body “a map of everyday evidence.”
“A collection of marks and irregularities that damage the chapters,” he wrote. “Scars from oven burns, a finger broken on a window long ago, the birth of a child. Silver hair and fine lines. The sun has left its celestial fingerprints on me, as if it had dipped a brush in dark brown watercolour, splattering my skin.”
He went on to say that while he does what he can to stay healthy, he has adopted a “mantra” of acceptance when it comes to physical changes.
“I accept the marks and the loose skin, the wrinkles,” she wrote. “I accept my body and let go of the need to be perfect, to look perfect, to defy gravity, to defy logic, to defy humanity. I accept my humanity.”
Paltrow also shared some poignant memories of seeing her own parents turn 50, and linked those thoughts to how her own children, Apple, 18, and Moses, 16, will remember their milestone birthdays.
“Perhaps her recollection is not that I was solely elated, nor lamenting the things I lost or did not come to fruition,” she wrote. “I hope that they can feel me feel all things and maintain the complexity of that notion. That they know that I am good through and through, even if sometimes I am not. That my feelings of regret and my mistakes can act as scaffolding for what I build from now on. They are the greatest achievement of my life”.
The Goop founder recently celebrated his daughter Apple’s 18th birthday with an emotional Instagram post.
“I’m a little speechless this morning,” Paltrow wrote, along with a crying emoji. “I couldn’t be more proud of the woman you are. You are everything she could have dreamed of and so much more.”
