George Clooney Considers Rust Incident – Deadline

George Clooney not happy with the way things are going on set indie movies Rust.

on WTF With Marc Maron podcast, Clooney discuss Rust set incident where the gun is released by Alec Baldwin shoot and kill cinematographer Halyna Hutchins and the injured director Joel Souza. He doesn’t think Baldwin had any intention to hurt, but emphasized that after the deaths of Brandon Lee and Jon-Erik Hexum – both of whom died from prop guns used during shootings that had live bullets/shrapnel in the chamber- gun safety had to be the highest priority on set.

“Every time I hand over a gun on set – every time – they give me a gun, I look at it, I open it, I show it to the person I’m pointing at too, I show it to the crew,” Clooney said. “Every take.” Then, “You hand it back to the armor when you’re done.” He says. Partly because of what happened to Brandon. Everyone does. Everyone knows” that’s the protocol to follow. “Maybe Alec did that – hopefully he did. But the problem is that dolls are complicated because they look real [rounds]. They have a small hole in the back [from which] belongs to someone [removed] gun powder.”

The prop guns attached had a realistic look and because of that, Clooney checked twice and thrice to make sure the props were harmless.

“I mean every time I get a six gun,” or a six-round pistol, “you aim it at the ground and you hit it six times,” Clooney said, noting “It’s just crazy” not to do it.

The actor also lamented the term “cold weapon”, which was described by the gun fired on the Rust set to indicate that it was safe to use.

“I’ve never heard of the term ‘cold weapon’,” Clooney said of filmmaking over the years. “I’ve never heard of that term. Literally. They only talk about things I’ve never heard of. It just makes me angry.”
