If you missed it, Google announced that its Stadia cloud streaming service will officially shut down on January 18, 2023. All Stadia hardware purchases made through the Google Store, including games and additional content purchased, will be refunded. at that specific store.
Cyberpunk 2077 is one of the games that has been available to Stadia players since its launch, but with the service’s impending doom, that means many fans may have to start their Night City journey from scratch. On the Stadia subreddit, a user asked CD Projekt Red to add cloud saves to the Stadia version of Cyberpunk, adding, “I care more about my saved game than the game refund.”
Other members of the community came to the rescue, suggesting the use of Google Takeout, a service that allows users to obtain data from Google services, download the save files to import them to Steam or GOG. There are a number of replies in the thread confirming that this method works, but there are also a good handful of users who are having issues with it working because Stadia wasn’t showing up in their Takeout menu.
At the time of this recording, there’s no word from CDPR on the possibility of cloud saves for Stadia’s version of Cyberpunk, but January is still a couple of months away, so anything can happen. For now, if you’re having this problem, keep trying Google Takeout with your fingers crossed.
