Companies need more workers. Why are millions of resumes rejected?

Companies are desperate to hire, yet some workers seem unable to find work. Here’s a reason why: Applicant ranking software removes millions of people from consideration.

Today’s employers rely on increasing levels of automation to fill vacancies efficiently, implementing software to do everything from searching for candidates and managing the application process to scheduling interviews and conducting background checks. These systems do the work they are supposed to do. They also exclude more than 10 million workers from hiring discussions, according to a new Harvard Business School. study published Saturday.
