Bob Stoops has a comfortable job covering FOX college football. Have a serious interest in USC open soccer work?
Even before USC football fired Clay Helton, Bob Stoops was mentioned as a possible replacement. So you can bet his name was mentioned a lot since the Trojans made the move official.
The former Oklahoma head coach addressed the rumors during FOX’s Big Noon Kickoff on Saturday.
What did Bob Stoops say about running for USC soccer coach?
“I’ve only been on set three times and you’re already getting rid of me,” Stoops said. “No, listen, I love working with you too much, what I’m doing. I love watching my son play. I have another training. That’s all I’m interested in doing right now.
Stoops went on to discuss what the Trojans need to find to win again.
“When I took over here in ’99, we had five losing seasons in a row. The self-image of our players was in the tank. The USC players came to feel the same way. They know what the traditions are and they don’t keep them. So the first order of business is to develop your self-esteem, your self-image, your confidence, your expectations. “
That’s an interesting prospect considering the feeling that Helton was Too kind and accommodating, putting the players’ feelings before the tough decisions needed to win.
Either way, Stoops’ statements do not preclude him from running for USC. There will be more denials than acknowledgments this fall as the Trojans work to identify their next head coach.
