During his previous visit from May 31 to June 2, Singh had rejected speculations of a leadership change in the state and had defended the Yogi Adityanath government’s handling of the COVID situation.
An aide to Radha Mohan Singh told PTI that Santhosh and Singh will be on a two-day visit to Lucknow starting Monday.
“During his visit to Lucknow, BL Santhosh will review the various works of the organization, including the ‘seva hee sangathan’, vaccination and other ongoing programs,” said a senior UP BJP leader, adding that the working committee (Karya Samiti) of the party is likely to meet on June 30.
Another party leader said that a few days before Deepavali (in November), the party will enter “full election mode” for the 2022 UP Assembly elections.
In addition to some BJP lawmakers who openly expressed resentment over handling the second wave of COVID, the main opposition parties – the SP, BSP, and Congress – plan to make it a major issue in the state Assembly elections, they are only a few months away. .
Santhosh’s visit to Lucknow comes after the Uttar Pradesh unit of the Bharatiya Janata Party appointed his state MLC AK Sharma, a former IAS official, the party’s state vice chairman.
Sharma, considered a trusted aide to Prime Minister Narendra Modi, received the new assignment amid speculation that he would be inducted into Yogi Adityanath’s government in a high-level ministerial post before next year’s assembly elections.
Sharma’s appointment as vice chairman of the BJP state unit denies the chances of his joining the state cabinet because of the BJP’s broader one-man, one-seat principle, a party leader said.
Archana Mishra from Lucknow and Amit Valmiki from Bulandshahr were appointed secretaries of the state unit.
On Saturday, the BJP also announced the appointment of Pranshudatt Dwivedi of Farrukhabad as head of BJP Yuva Morcha, Geeta Shakya of Auraiya as head of Mahila Morcha of the party, Kameshwar Singh of Gorakhpur as head of Kisan Morcha.
During their previous visit to Lucknow, both Senior Vice Ministers Keshav Prasad Maurya and Dinesh Sharma, as well as UP Law Minister Brijesh Pathak, had met with Santhosh.
On June 1, Santhosh praised the UP government’s handling of COVID-19. In a tweet, he had said: “In five weeks, @ myogiadityanath’s Uttar Pradesh reduced the new daily case count by 93% … Remember it is a state with a population over 20 Cr. they couldn’t manage a city of 1.5 Cr population, Yogiji managed quite effectively. ”
