Bhupendra Patel was sworn in on Monday as Gujarat’s 17th prime minister, succeeding Vijay Rupani, who resigned in an unprecedented move on Saturday. The oath of office was administered by Governor Acharya Devvrat in a ceremony attended by the Union Minister of the Interior, Amit Shah.
CMs from BJP-governed states, including Haryana CM Manohar Lal Khattar, Madhya Pradesh CM Shivraj Singh Chouhan, Goa CM Pramod Sawant, were also present at the ceremony. Shah congratulated Patel after the swearing-in ceremony.
Patel’s selection for the chief ministerial post came as a surprise amid speculation surrounding other names such as Union ministers Mansukh Mandaviya and Parshottam Rupala, and Senior Deputy Minister Nitin Patel.
