Before E3, Microsoft aims to bring Xbox to billions of gamers with or without consoles.

Microsoft’s vision for the Xbox goes far beyond this device.

When Microsoft released its Xbox video game console in 2001, the only place where you could play games like its popular space was epic. Halo: Combat Evolved what on xbox. Today, you can still buy the latest devices from the company, the $ 499 Xbox Series X or entry level $ 399 Xbox Series S. But you can also play on a PC. And if you pay Microsoft $ 15 per month, for your Xbox Games Pass Ultimate subscription, you can play on a tablet or phone too.

But in the future, Microsoft thinks you’ll want to play in more places. Like the television in a hotel room. Or a small streaming decoder that you can hook up to a TV or monitor at a friend’s house.

“Of course, there is still a place for consoles and PCs. And frankly, there always will be,” said Microsoft’s Xbox director. Phil Spencerhe said for a briefing for journalists this week before his presentation during the E3 video game conference this Sunday. “But through the cloud, we will be able to deliver robust gaming experiences to anyone who is connected to the Internet, even on the least powerful and least expensive devices, even on devices that people already own.”

Phil Spencer has led Microsoft’s Xbox division since 2014.

The biggest players in the games industry, such as Microsoft, as well as Sony, Nintendo, Apple, and Google, tend to talk big about their products being designed to entertain people around the world, wherever they are. And it’s largely true: billions of people around the world play games on phones, consoles, or computers at home or in game rooms and cafes. Members of the military even play video games as he patrols the depths of the ocean in submarines.

But Microsoft has dreamed of going further for years. For more than a decade, he has experimented with new forms of interactive television shows, such as a Sesame Street series from a decade ago. And it is investigated uniting Xbox technology with televisions other decoders.

Now, Microsoft plans to bring its Xbox software and games to those types of devices. Without providing further details, Microsoft said it is working with Internet-connected TV manufacturers. “to integrate the Xbox experience“into them, with no need for additional hardware other than a controller. Microsoft also said it is building its own” streaming devices “for televisions and monitors. At the same time, Microsoft is investing more in its Xbox Games Pass subscription service, offer people ways to purchase their Xbox on monthly install plans also.

“As a company, Microsoft is betting on games. Games have been key for Microsoft since our early days,” he said. Satya nadella, CEO of Microsoft. “We are really redefining how games are distributed, played and shared.”

Push harder

Minecraft, the video game, was Satya Nadella’s first major acquisition as CEO of Microsoft.

James Martin / CNET

Microsoft isn’t just talking about a great game when it comes to Xbox. In the last two years, he has invested heavily in his devices and his line of games. In 2014, spent over $ 2.5 billion to buy Minecraft, already one of the most popular games ever created. Last year, he followed up with the $ 7.5 billion cash purchase of ZeniMax Media, a company that owns industry heavyweights like Accelerated doom demon slaying game, the epic fantasy series Ancient documents and the post-apocalyptic fallout adventure series.

The company also struck deals with companies such as Electronic Arts, the maker of FIFA soccer games, and Fortnite developer Epic Games to bring their successes to their subscription service.

“We are trying to reach the 3 billion people on the planet who somehow play an electronic game,” Spencer said. But, he added, Microsoft realized that only 250 million people are really interested in buying consoles. “We need to meet the players where they are, which is mobile, and on other screens and devices,” he said.

It’s unclear whether Microsoft can pull off such great feats. Microsoft and Sony don’t report comparable console unit sales data, but UK-based Ampere Analysis said Sony’s PlayStation 5 and Nintendo Switch consoles. are outselling the new Xbox Series X and Series S, although the three companies are battling the global chip supply shortage.

Still, Microsoft said it plans an “unparalleled investment” in cloud games, new titles and its community. The company will discuss more of its plans during E3 on Sunday, starting at 10 am PT / 1 pm ET. Although the event will be broadcast remotely over the internet due to coronavirus, CNET and our sister site GameSpot we will cover it live, as we always have, with real-time updates, insights and analysis you can only find here.

The long and wavering history of Father’s Day – LifeSavvy

Everett Collection / Shutterstock

Every year on the third Sunday in June, people across the United States and beyond will celebrate Father’s Day. Although the holiday was made official only a few decades ago, the history of its origin dates back to the early 20th century. Let’s take a brief look at how this special day came to be.

The core of what would become the modern Father’s Day celebration was planted in the early 20th century. But not in the simplest way.

The first example of a Father’s Day celebration in the United States took place in the early 20th century. In 1907, a deadly explosion at the Fairmont Coal Company mine in Mononhag, Virginia, claimed the lives of hundreds of workers. In an effort to celebrate all the parents lost in the accident, Grace Golden Clayton and her minister Robert Thomas Webb held a memorial service in their honor the following year, on July 5, 1908.

Though the participants didn’t realize it at the time, that’s the first time Father’s Day has been celebrated in the US The event was supposed to be a one-time deal, involving only the families of the victims. Even then, however, the event was largely overshadowed by the 4th of July celebrations and other local events.

However, there was certainly something in the air at the time, which pushed people to promote the holidays in honor of their elders. Anna Jarvis was already campaigning to establish Mother’s Day as a national holiday, gradually gaining popularity across the country. It was in his 1909 sermon that a young Sonora Louise Smart Dodd from Spokane, Washington, had the idea to request an official Father’s Day celebration.

Part of the inspiration behind that decision was his own father. After his mother died giving birth to the youngest of his five siblings, his father was left alone to raise the six children.

Although he struggled to gain full public support, he managed to convince the local churches and the YMCA to hold the celebrations on a specific Sunday each June. His initial proposal was on June 5, his father’s birthday. However, due to the proximity of Mother’s Day and the minister not having enough time to prepare a sermon, they decided to set the third Sunday in June as the official date.

So, on June 19, 1910, Washington observed the first state celebration of Father’s Day in the entire country. Roses were designated as the official flower: red for parents who were still alive and white for those who had passed away.

However, despite this initial victory, Dodd encountered many obstacles in his decades-long mission to have Father’s Day recognized as a federal holiday. For years, the nation saw a widespread movement against Mother’s Day and Father’s Day in favor of a joint celebration of Father’s Day.

However, the idea was unsuccessful. Ironically, however, many men still opposed the celebration of Father’s Day. Some saw it as another pointless commercial holiday, while others saw it as a castration. However, over the years, the holiday became more celebrated and today there are few objections to the practice.

We celebrate Father’s Day every year thanks to Dodd’s resistance. After a 60-year struggle, his campaign finally came to an end when President Nixon enacted the national holiday in 1972.

This special day is celebrated in many countries, although not all on the same day. Most, including the US, Canada, and the UK, celebrate Father’s Day on the third Sunday in June.

Traditionally Catholic nations, such as Italy, Spain, and most of South America, celebrate it on Saint Joseph’s Day, March 19. In Australia and Fiji, it is celebrated on the first Sunday in September. In Taiwan, however, Father’s Day is celebrated on August 8, as the word “eight” in Mandarin sounds similar to the word “dad.”

And hey, if you’re looking for a last minute Father’s Day gift, why not? spend some time working together on a project? Alternatively, you may want to surprise him with a subscription box or a pleasant experience that he will always remember.

A Solid Entry-Level Keyboard and Mouse Set – Review Geek

  • 1 – Absolutely hot garbage
  • 2 – Sorta warm garbage
  • 3 – Strongly flawed design
  • 4 – Some pros, many cons
  • 5 – Acceptably imperfect
  • 6 – Good enough to buy on sale
  • 7 – Cool, but not the best in its class
  • 8 – Fantastic, with some footnotes
  • 9 – Shut up and take my money
  • 10 – Nirvana of the absolute design

Price: $ 49.99 (MSRP)

Cameron summerson

When you think of Cherry, you most likely think of mechanical keyboards. While this is what the company is best known for, it is not all it does. The Cherry Gentix Desk set is one example, and it’s a great budget for anyone looking to buy a new wireless keyboard and mouse.

This is what we like

  • Good value
  • Software to customize additional buttons
  • Excellent multimedia controls on the keyboard

And what we don’t do

  • The mouse feels cheap
  • No backlight

For just $ 50, I wasn’t expecting much from the Gentix desktop set. Switching from my beloved Logitech MX Keys and MX Master 3 wasn’t something I really expected, but I was pleasantly surprised once I started using the Gentix set. While a direct comparison to a $ 200-plus configuration wouldn’t be fair, the price of this set is not indicative of its quality. In fact, it has some great features than I do. prefer about my Logi setup.

The keyboard and mouse are designed to work together, both are wireless with a shared receiver (no Bluetooth, sorry), and are battery powered. Cherry says you can expect about three years of use from the included AAA batteries (two per device), which honestly isn’t too bad! I have to charge my MX keys at least once a week, which is 156 times less efficient or something like that.

But yes, that is the essence. Now let’s talk about the details.

Cherry Gentix keyboard: a decent keyboard with killer multimedia controls

The Gentix keyboard and mouse set
Cameron summerson

If I said I’m a keyboard snob, I’d be lying. The only thing I know about keyboards is what I. not like: mechanical keyboards. This is contrary to most other writers I know, but I just can’t do long trips, loud noises, and all the other nonsense people seem to love (??) about mechs. That’s the main reason I was interested in the Gentix set in the first place, and while the keyboard isn’t a low-profile, short-travel keyboard like I’m used to, it still feels pretty good for typing.

It has quite a bit of travel, which is a departure from most other non-mechanical keyboards I’ve used in recent years that seem to go for the shortest travel possible. While there is a period of adjustment if you are used to a lower profile switch, it is not bad. Switching to Gentix from my MX keys or even the keyboard on my Surface Laptop 3 was essentially painless.

A close-up of the additional keys on the Gentix keyboard
Cameron summerson

The Gentix keyboard uses a standard 104-key layout, complete with a 10-key numeric keypad. It also has 10 additional keys for Windows lock, browser, email, calculator, and multimedia controls. The latter is actually my favorite feature of the Gentix keyboard – the multimedia keys are at the bottom, below the standard keys. This allows these keys to have a different layout than you’d find on most keyboards, leading to more intuitive controls in my opinion. I wish all keyboards used this layout for multimedia controls.

The volume control buttons on the Gentix keyboardGentix keyboard multimedia controls

However, if you’re not a fan of these extra keys, Cherry offers a customization tool called Cherry keys. This allows you to change the default function of not only the additional keys, but also the entire row F1-12. With Cherry Keys, you can configure keys to do things like run a program, open a file, modify a system setting (like lock the screen), use a macro, and more. It is not endless, but it is quite versatile and unexpected at this price.

On the downside, this keyboard lacks some sort of backlighting, which isn’t uncommon, but it’s still a bummer. I don’t know why backlighting is always so important to me when I touch typeface, but it is. It’s like my brain can’t function if it knows the keys aren’t on. Brains are weird, man. Unfortunately, the text on the keys it is pretty bright white so it stands out. In a well-lit room, that’s only as good as the backlight. I think. Maybe. Close enough anyway.

Cherry Keys software for Windows
Cherry Keys allows you to reassign certain functions

Lastly, let’s talk about the quality of the build. It’s okay? I’m not expecting $ 200 keyboard quality from a $ 50 keyboard set (and neither should you), but it still feels solid for this price. It doesn’t feel “cheap” by my standards, not to the point where I actively think “wow, this sure feels cheap” every time I type it. The mouse, on the other hand …

Cherry Gentix Mouse: a cheap mouse with some cool tricks

Cherry Gentix Mouse
Cameron summerson

While I may not be very picky on keyboards, I think I’m more particular on mice. Mostly because I have De Quervain’s tenosynovitis so my thumb drives me walnuts when I use a non-ergonomic mouse. I tried to put that aside when I tested the Gentix mouse, but it is difficult because this mouse is not very ergonomic at all.

It’s not uncomfortable though, and it does have some cool features. But it also feels pretty cheap, especially compared to the keyboard. There’s a fine line between “wow, this is a light mouse!” and “wow, this mouse feels like it was found in the less than a dollar container at the local grocery store.” This mouse leans a lot towards the last statement, although it is not Quite there. But yeah, it feels pretty cheap.

The Cherry Gentix mouse with a focus on the DPI button
The DPI button allows you to go from 1,000 to 2,000 (and vice versa) instantly. Cameron summerson

Despite the low-end build, it’s not bad to use. There are six buttons that feel good and click this little guy: left, right, forward, back, scroll wheel, and a DPI switch. The latter is something you didn’t expect to see in a mouse at this price point (are you noticing the trend here?) And it’s a very nice touch. You can easily switch between 1000 and 2000 DPI with the click of a button. I like this because it makes it easy to switch between daily tasks and those that require more precision. (Like editing all the dust from the review images of all the black devices that are heavily tampered with. Cough).

Like the keyboard, the Gentix mouse also works with Cherry Keys software to reprogram the scroll wheel click and thumb forward / back buttons. The DPI switch cannot be reprogrammed, which is a shame for those who don’t need this feature. It would be useful to have an additional button that could do whatever you want without sacrificing the other expected functionality of a mouse.

Cherry Keys software shows option to reprogram Gentix mouse buttons

The mouse has interesting foam padding on both sides where the thumb and ring finger would normally rest. At first I thought this seemed like a cheap and tacky addition, but after using the mouse for a while, I started to like it. It’s a smooth but textured area that makes using the mouse more comfortable, or at least more pleasant to the touch.

The bottom of the mouse is where you’ll find the bay for the pair of AAA batteries, and there’s also a convenient little garage for the 2.4GHz USB dongle that connects everything, making at least the mouse a decent option for traveling as well. I don’t see anyone taking the keyboard on the go (although I suppose you could?), As it is too bulky. The mouse would not be a bad choice if you want to live that mouse life. That would really test its durability, heh.

Conclusion: not a bad deal for a complicated place

Look, here’s the thing, if you only have $ 50 to spend and you need a new mouse and keyboard, you could do a lot worse than the Cherry Gentix desktop set. It’s definitely worth the asking price (and a bit more), especially with useful features like well-placed media controls on the keyboard and customizable buttons on both devices. The mouse feels decidedly cheap, but hey, at this price, the corners have to get somewhere.

Classification: 8/10

Price: $ 49.99 (MSRP)

This is what we like

  • Good value
  • Software to customize additional buttons
  • Excellent multimedia controls on the keyboard

And what we don’t do

  • The mouse feels cheap
  • No backlight

Motorola Moto G Stylus 5G review

The Motorola Moto G Stylus 5G, as you may have put together, is a phone with a built-in stylus and 5G. It’s a slightly upgraded version of the 2021 edition Moto G Stylus for 4G only (sorry, that’s what these phones are called).

The Stylus 5G includes a few more hardware updates in addition to 5G connectivity, including a larger battery, more storage and RAM (256GB and 6GB in the version I tested, respectively), and a newer Snapdragon 480 processor. There’s a new stylus-compatible GIF maker mode, which is fun. Fun is good! But it feels more or less like the same phone: the rear camera matrix is identical with the exception of a different macro sensor, its 6.8-inch screen is the same, and the overall dimensions are similar.

This puts the G Stylus 5G in something of an awkward place. At $ 399, it falls between the $ 279 G Stylus and the $ 1,000 Galaxy Note 20 (the next step if you want a stylus with your phone), but it doesn’t go far enough to clearly offer more than budget. friendlier version. Performance and battery life are slightly better, but these are not weak points for the 4G version.

Having 5G is good too, but the value drops when you consider that the G Stylus 5G is only guaranteed two years of security updates. That’s when 5G in the US will start to get good, so most of us can get away with a 4G device for years to come.

It all adds up to a good phone without a compelling case to recommend it.

The phone’s 1080p LCD panel lacks the pleasant contrast of an OLED.

Moto G Stylus 5G display and performance

The G Stylus 5G is a big, big phone with a capital B. Its 6.8-inch screen is about as big as it looks, at least until all of our phones start to fold and expand into strange little Transformer-style tablets. It’s a 1080p LCD panel that’s fine – it lacks the nice contrast of OLEDs, but it can still be used in bright daylight conditions.

Battery life is very good thanks to a large 5000 mAh cell. Using it on Wi-Fi, I have four hours of screen time on and it’s only down to 36 percent. You could certainly get two days of use, including relatively heavy use of mobile data, and even a full day of very demanding use seems reasonable.

Performance is good too; Jumping from one app to another is fast and smooth, and heavier tasks like zooming in and out of the Google Maps image only show a bit of stuttering. There’s minimal but noticeable shutter lag in the camera app, which seems like a problem this phone shouldn’t have, but not enough to ruin anyone’s day.

The G Stylus 5G ships with Android 11 and will only support a major OS platform update and two years of security updates. Unfortunately, that’s a short lifespan, especially considering that Samsung’s Galaxy A series phones are now guaranteed four years of security updates. For $ 400, you really should get more than a couple of years of support for your device.

The phone’s stylus functions are basic but make it easy to do things like add handwriting to an Instagram story post.

A couple of side notes on the 5G connectivity of the Stylus 5G: At launch, it will work on Verizon and T-Mobile’s 5G networks, but it will work only as 4G on AT&T. Motorola says AT&T 5G support will be available “in the coming months.” It doesn’t support any of the mmWave 5G networks (the hard-to-find, super-fast variety), but that’s not a huge loss. Even more importart, want work with the C-band 5G frequencies that Verizon and AT&T will begin using by the end of the year.

The stylus features of the Stylus 5G are basic but adequate. The stylus is spring loaded in the lower right corner of the phone and automatically opens a quick menu of options when you remove it. If you’re on the lock screen, you can jot down a note without having to unlock the device, which is helpful. You won’t find productivity features or nifty tricks like the Note series-style wireless control, but instead some useful shortcuts for snapping a GIF or doodling in a screenshot. They are useful and fair for the price.

There are standard wide, ultra-wide, macro and depth cameras on the rear panel of the Stylus 5G.

Moto G Stylus 5G Camera

The Stylus 5G offers three rear cameras: a standard 48-megapixel f / 1.7 wide, 8-megapixel f / 2.2 ultrawide, and a 5-megapixel macro, along with a 2-megapixel depth sensor and a 16-megapixel selfie camera. The 4G G Stylus has a 2 megapixel macro camera, but that’s the only difference between them.

Like the 4G version, the Stylus 5G takes good photos in abundant light with an amazing level of detail, thanks to the way it processes 48 megapixel images into 12 megapixel files. The ultrawide camera is nice to have, although your images can be a bit noisier in difficult lighting conditions, and the macro camera is still disappointing, despite the modest resolution increase.

The main camera is prone to some drastic color shifts with even slightly different compositions of the same scene and subject: in one shot my orange cat is orange, and in the next, taken in a slightly different position, it suddenly looks blue . This happens more often in mixed lighting conditions, which many cameras will struggle with, but it appeared often enough in my tests to annoy me.

The Moto G Stylus 5G doesn’t do enough to stand out.

The 4G-only G Stylus is a good deal at $ 279, and there’s nothing really wrong with the $ 399 G Stylus 5G, but it’s harder to justify its higher cost. With only a couple of years of guaranteed security updates, this phone will only see the beginning of a really good 5G in the US It’s a good option to upgrade if you are leaning towards a stylus phone and the Note isn’t in for. your budget, but for most people, I’d recommend sticking with the 4G-only model for a couple of years or looking at a 5G phone with a bit more longevity.

If you’re more interested in the big screen and battery than the stylus, you can save quite a bit and go for the Moto G Power (2021). Its processor isn’t that great and you miss out on the ultrawide camera, but if you want to cover the basics for a couple of years, it will work.

On the other hand, if you can afford to spend a little more and want to get more than a few years out of your phone, the Samsung Galaxy A52 5G is an excellent choice. It has a beautiful big screen, 5G, and it comes with a generous support policy. Stylus enthusiasts on a budget have a good option in the Moto G Stylus 5G, but most others could do better elsewhere.

How to know which Kindle model you have

Erlo brown

Over the past 14 years, Amazon has released many slightly different Kindles. If you’re stuck wondering if you have a Paperwhite 2, Paperwhite 3, an original Kindle, or anything else, we’ll show you how to tell them apart.

How to find the serial number of your device

The easiest way to find out which Kindle you have is by using its serial number. Each model has its own set of prefixes. (The prefix is the set of letters at the beginning of the serial number). There are two ways to verify it.

Find your Kindle serial number in the device menu

To check the serial number on the device, go to your Kindle’s home page and tap the three little dots in the upper right to open the menu.

Note: If you have an older Kindle (or are using an older version of Kindle software), the menus may look slightly different. You are still looking for “Device Information”.

Find Your Kindle Serial Number Through Amazon

If your Kindle won’t turn on, or you can’t find the option in the menu, you can check the serial number on the Amazon website.

Log into your Amazon account through a web browser and go to Manage Devices Page. (You can also use Amazon’s menu system to get there: go to Account & Lists> Content & Devices, and then click on “Devices.”)

Best Prime Day AirPods Deals: AirPods Pro Drop to $ 190 on Amazon

This story is part of Amazon Prime Day 2021, CNET’s guide to everything you need to know and how to make sure you get the best deal.

Weather Amazon Prime Day It may not officially start until Monday June 21, we are already seeing significant savings on Apple’s AirPods line in the run-up to the two-day sale. Amazon and Walmart are still generally considered the best places to find price cuts on Apple AirPods. As of Sunday, June 20, the best offers that we are seeing in the AirPods Pro for $ 190 and Standard AirPods for $ 119. Neither is the best price we’ve seen, but both are way better than what you’d pay if you walked into an Apple Store right now.

Please note that all of these headphones are compatible with the new spatial audio characteristics, but none of them will offer the highest quality of the next lossless audio format, which is too rich for the current Bluetooth wireless standard to handle.

Apple’s AirPods Pro were briefly as low as $ 169 at Walmart and $ 170 at Amazon for Black Friday. More recently, wireless earbuds have been between $ 190 and $ 200. That’s still $ 49 to $ 59 below the normal Apple Store price, which is a pretty decent AirPods deal.

Read our AirPods Pro review.

Walmart had a strong stake in the Black Friday sale game by slashing AirPods to $ 99, the lowest price ever. That deal is long gone, but Walmart, Target, and Amazon now offer them for between $ 120 and $ 130 most days. That’s still $ 30- $ 40 cheaper than the price at the Apple Store.

Sarah Tew / CNET

AirPods with the wireless charging case were briefly dropped to $ 130, which was very close to what you would normally pay for standard AirPods with a wired charging case. Now that its price has risen back to $ 150, you are seeing a $ 30 increase from AirPods with the wired case. Whether the extra money is worth spending is debatable, but that price still represents a $ 49 discount from the Apple Store price.

David Carnoy / CNET

Apple’s latest and greatest headphones were announced in December. These are full-size models, packed with high-end features like noise cancellation, spatial audio, and easy integration with Apple devices. Yes, paying more for headphones than you’d pay for a PS5 might sound crazy, but here’s the craziest thing: they’re actually worth it, as long as you don’t feel burned out by their lack of support for full lossless audio. After months of backorders, these headphones have seen their first sales in recent days – some colors are $ 20 off Amazon and other vendors.

WatchOS 8 is coming soon. Here are all the Apple Watch updates you can expect

Apple / Screenshot by Russell Holly / CNET

This story is part of Apple event, our full coverage of the latest news from Apple headquarters.

Ready for some new features for your Apple Watch? WatchOS 8 played a big role at Apple WWDC 2021 event. The globally popular Apple Watch platform will see some exciting changes in its next software update, which you will see soon. Developers will have access to a beta version first, and the general public will be able to download the update later this year, probably in the fall.

The Breathe app is getting an update, from a new animation to help you focus to a “reflection” mode that asks you to think about something specific and improve mindfulness. Reflect will be available as a separate application so you can use it as much as you like.

Fans of sleep tracking will find a new breathing rate that will track how many breaths you take in a minute and look at trends over time to see what needs improvement. The more you use this feature, the more likely Apple Health will show you more information about your sleep trends, which could lead to preventing potential future problems.

Fitness workouts will now include tai chi and Pilates training modes, so you can more accurately track those activities. Like all other workouts, select the option and continue until you have finished a workout. All activity during that workout is shared with Apple Health.

The new Portraits watch face gives the popular photo watch face a greater focus on a person and offers depth with animations when you turn the crown of your watch. In addition to this, Apple Photos on the watch has been improved to give you more options and more easily find the photos you are looking for from your wrist.

Apple Watch messaging has also been improved, including tiny gif responses for browsing and improved voice responses. You can also send photos from the updated photos app in two taps, just like you would from your phone.

WatchOS 8 walk-on fixation

Apple Health is also using your step-tracking data to help assess what it calls “walking stability.” This measurement analyzes your gait and balance, and shows you how to monitor the overall health of your steps in a single measurement.

The Apple Health app will give you a score based on available data and make recommendations to improve your walking stability. This feature is not limited to the Apple Watch, but if you already use one, you will be able to send additional information to this extent.

Apple glucose

One thing that is heavily rumored to be part of WatchOS 8 is glucose monitoring, which would exist alongside a new glucose sensor on a new Apple Watch. While the words were never said out loud, the “blood glucose highlights” were briefly seen on this slide during the event, so we may hear more about this feature once the next Apple Watch is ready. to be released.

The Apple Watch has come a long way since its original release in 2015, when it was initially touted as a luxury item complete with a $ 10,000 gold variant called the Apple Watch Edition. But in recent years, Apple has touted the watch as a health device, tracking the steps and activity of users. Additional Apple health-related features such as an ECG heart monitor, sync technology for gym equipment, and a meditation app.

Windows 11: everything we want from Microsoft’s new operating system

We still don’t know what the big Windows 10 redesign will look like, or if it will be called Windows 11, but we do have a few things we’d like to see in it.

It seems that Windows 11 is happening. Microsoft wants to reveal what it’s been calling “the next generation of Windows“at a virtual event Thursday, despite previous promises that Windows 10 would be the final version of the operating system. Filtered images of the new version of Windows shows a total redesign, with a new Start menu, start screen and startup sound, and a more modern aesthetic, similar to that of Mac.

Outside of aesthetics, CNET editors, including Jason Hiner, Stephen Shankland, Lori Grunin, and myself, have high hopes for what the latest version of Windows might pack in terms of performance, productivity, and other features. This is what we expect to see in Windows 11 (or whatever the new version of Windows is called).

One control panel instead of two

A big complaint among Windows 10 users is the confusing division between the Control Panel and the Settings app. A single control panel interface would be a welcome improvement on Windows 11.

Computational videography for webcams

With many people switching to remote or hybrid work, the need for a robust webcam experience is imperative for all those zoom and team calls. The iPhone 12 Pro and recent Google Pixel Phones already includes computational image processing to improve quality. We’d love to see this feature in Windows 11 for webcams, which could also give PCs an edge over the new M1 Macs.

More Mac-like virtual desktops

Macs have a great feature known as Spaces that allow you to easily create multiple virtual desktops to keep your screen tidier. On Windows, do it take a few more steps. We would like to see easier virtual desktop creation and management in Windows 11.

Virtual desktops help you distribute your applications across multiple workspaces.

Stop forcing us to use Edge

Based on Microsoft Chrome Edge browser it is the default in Windows 10. Of course, you can change it to the browser of your choice, such as Chrome, Firefox or Brave. But some users have reported a problem with Microsoft. resetting the default back to edge. We hope it is easier to set and maintain the defaults in Windows 11.

Faster Windows updates

Windows 10 Microsoft’s move to offer Windows as a service, with continuous updates, which is great for keeping the represented machines safe. However, these updates can be slow. In Windows 11, we’d like to see a more Google-like approach with Chrome OS, where the update happens on a second partition to be done in the background.

Faster shutdown, reboot and wake up from sleep

PCs running Windows 10 may face slower shutdown, reboot, and wake-up times, sometimes due to the need to close applications like Task Manager. We would like to see those options accelerated in the next version.

Windows-laptop-how-to-tech-tip-Journal Beat-2021-13-lenovo-yoga-c940-2-in-1

We’d like to see faster startup, shutdown, and wake-up times in Windows 11.

Three-finger trackpad for drag and drop

MacOS offers the option of using three fingers on the trackpad to drag and drop items. But Windows machines currently double-click it to do this.

Easier options to reverse the direction of travel

Again, MacOS makes it easy to reverse the direction of mouse scrolling if you want to from System Preferences. But in Windows 10, you have to enter the registry and it is a more complicated process.

Simple user account creation

In Windows 10, you must sign in to create a new user account, and Microsoft recommends that the new account also be attached to a Microsoft account. We’d like to see easier user account creation without logging in or being pushed to create or connect a Microsoft account.

Windows-laptop-how-to-tech-tip-Journal Beat-2021-02-microsoft-surface-book-2-15-inch-laptop-windows

We hope that setting up user accounts is a bit easier in Windows 11.

Sarah Tew / CNET

Improve settings for multiple cameras, webcams, microphones, and headsets

With the rise of working from home, more people are upgrading their computers setup with multiple webcams, microphones, and headsets. However, Windows 10 makes it difficult to choose the device you want to use and sometimes requires you to disable one of the others. We’d like to see better options for switching between multiple devices in Windows 11.

What other features do you want to see in Windows 11? Turn off the sound below in the comments.
